Yankees Links: ALCS Game 5, Game 6, and CC Sabathia

Yankees Links: ALCS Game 5, Game 6, and CC Sabathia

Another long afternoon must pass before we get to see what the Yankees have left in their quest of forcing what looks to be a drama-filled Game 7 in the ALCS, with the announced starting pitching match-up of Luis Severino and Gerrit Cole.

However, in order to get there, the Yankees have to pull out a win in a bullpen vs. bullpen battle, where expectations seem to be that a majority of the game could be J.A. Happ against Jose Urquidy and/or Wade Miley.

It’s time for another Yankee to earn their pinstripes tonight. Will that be Happ? Giancarlo Stanton? Someone else? Only time will tell.

That being said, let’s see what other commentators around the web are saying about the ALCS Game 5, Game 6, and CC Sabathia.

Roster Move: Ben Heller to Replace CC Sabathia on ALCS Roster

Roster Move: Ben Heller to Replace CC Sabathia on ALCS Roster

Earlier today, the Yankees announced that LHP CC Sabathia (#52) was to be removed from the ALCS roster and be replaced with RHP Ben Heller (#61).

This marks the official end for the Hall-of-Fame career of Left-Handed Pitcher, CC Sabathia, as this move also makes Sabathia ineligible for the Yankees World Series roster- if the Yankees are able to advance to the fall classic later this month.

This comes the day after Sabathia pitched to 4 batters in Game 4 of the ALCS, getting through 0.2 IP with zero’s across the board. However, one run did score via error and one batter did reach base via hit-by-pitch.

Weekly Mailbag: Stanton's Roster Spot, Aaron Hicks, CC's Injury, Yankees' Chances, and CC's Replacement

Well, that was deflating, wasn’t it?  I thought Tanaka looked great – 1 mistake makes his start look a lot worse than it was.  Green then, of course, compounded that mistake with one of his own.  I sat there, thinking about the multiplier effect that mistakes have in baseball as Sanchez whacked a homer over the wall for what would have been the game-tying homer had Green not missed with a fastball.  That’s baseball, I guess.  All I can say is that I don’t envy the people that work with me today – I may be a bit cranky.

This week, we’ll talk about Stanton’s inclusion on the ALCS roster, Aaron Hicks, CC’s shoulder injury, the Yankees’ chances, and CC’s replacement on the ALCS roster.  Let’s get at it:

Weekly Mailbag: Tyler Lyons, Sabathia's Shoulder, Happ's ALDS Role, and Mike Ford!

Weekly Mailbag: Tyler Lyons, Sabathia's Shoulder, Happ's ALDS Role, and Mike Ford!

The time has finally come – the playoffs.  I am beyond excited.  As much fun as it’s been watching the Yankees meet the expectations we had for them last winter while dealing with an unprecedented number of injuries has been almost as fun as watching the 2017 group make an October run.  Unlike 2017 though, we expected the 2019 Yankees to be here in October.  It hasn’t made the ride any less fun, but we’ve finally reached the point of the year where small sample sizes mean everything, and there’s not much we can do in the way of analytics to say anything predictive right now.  For that reason, this week’s mailbag will be a bit more from my gut than usual.

In this week’s mailbag, we’ll talk about my prediction that Tyler Lyons would make the ALDS roster, CC Sabathia’s balky shoulder, JA Happ’s role, and Mike Ford.

Yankees Power Their Way to Win 102; Keep Home Field Prays Alive

Yankees Power Their Way to Win 102; Keep Home Field Prays Alive

Sometimes, days just feel right. Even though I’m back at college in Pennsylvania, it seems as though this weekend, across the Mid-Atlantic, was the last attempt of summer before the cold mornings and nights of autumn begin again.

Regardless, this was a fantastic weekend that cumulated in a great final home game for the 2019 Yankees. A perfect sunny, 84-degree day with a 9 mph wind to center field. Oh, and an 8-3 Win by the Bronx Bombers, who have continued to live up to their nickname this season.

And that is also without mentioning the pre-game ceremony for current Yankee and future hall-of-fame left-handed pitcher, CC Sabathia. The videos from the event will make you cry.

So, now with wet eyes, and a lack of Yankee Stadium baseball until October, let’s get to the recap!
