From the Dugout to the Booth

MLB Network has a new analyst. He’s very familiar to Yankees fans.

Joe Girardi, the Yankee’s last manager, will be joining the network as an analyst on MLB Tonight. The manager has had interest in broadcasting and worked for the YES Network in the past.  Girardi also worked for ESPN radio for the 2003 National League Division Series and for FOX in 2007.

At the conclusion of the 2017 season, Girardi was let go by the Yankees after 10 years as their manager. The former catcher led the Bombers to a 910-710 record in the regular season. This led to six playoff appearances and a World Series Championship in 2009.

Although Girardi was not the most bombastic manager, he knew how to win games. Even with some of the most mediocre Yankee teams, Girardi was able to push the Yankees over .500 and keep them in playoff contention until the last week of the season in 2013, 2014, and 2016. This shows a strong knowledge of the game that bodes well for MLB Network.
