ALCS Game 3: Yanks Fall 4-1 to Astros

ALCS Game 3: Yanks Fall 4-1 to Astros

If I told you that Luis Cessa threw two innings, but didn’t tell you the final score of Game 3 of the ALCS, you would probably assume that the Yankees lost by a large margin. While the Yankees lost 4-1 to fall behind in the series 2-1, it was an exciting game, and the Yankees had Gerrit Cole more than once. Sadly, the Yankee offense was not able to capitalize despite the fact that Severino kept the Yankees in the ballgame despite pitching without his A-level command again.

The Astros are a great team, but games like Tuesday (and Game 2, for that matter) are the type that could make the Yankees lose some sleep. This was a winnable game, and what’s worse is that I’m not sure that anything could have been done differently.

ALCS Recap: Yankees Hold Astros to 3 Hits, Collect 13 of Their Own in Strong 7-0 Victory

Late last night, the 2019 Yankees were able to do something that no Yankee team has been able to do since 2010: Win a game, on the road, in the American League Championship Series. That last victory also came in Texas, in a Yankees 6-5 win over the Rangers.

Luckily for us, however, yesterday’s game featured very little of the same- outside of Brett Gardner- as the Yankees offense showed up early with putting together good drives against Zack Greinke, all while the Yankees pitching prevented the Astros offense of being able to do much of anything.

As the lower seed, winning a game on the road isn’t just important, but completely necessary if the Yankees are going to advance to the World Series. Getting that win quickly and easily in Game 1 is everything that was needed.

So, let’s stop our filibustering and get to the ALCS Game One Recap:

Three ALCS Questions

Three ALCS Questions

Tonight, the Yankees will open the ALCS against the Houston Astros. This is the series that fans of both, and neither, team have been waiting for all year. The two best teams in baseball are facing off against each other with a trip to the World Series for the winner. The Astros are an extremely balanced team with a potent offense, excellent defense and fantastic starting pitching. The Yankees offense can keep up with the Astros, and their bullpen is better. Moreover, if they field the way they did in the ALDS, the Yankees are as good as anybody defensively. However, the Astros top three starting pitchers Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole and Zack Greinke constitute the best top of the rotation in the game and make Houston slight favorites in the series.
