As the Yankees head off to Washington D.C. for a two-game series tonight and tomorrow evening, the Yankees lose the best part of the American League in the Designated Hitter position.
Due to the 8-Man Bullpen and 4-Man Bench (minus the DH), the Yankees are looking into some moves to get an extra bat up to the majors. Moves involving Brandon Drury and Clint Frazier have been leaking around baseball circles.
In addition, in some former Yankee news, there is some potentially bad news that could be announced later today involving Robinson Cano.
Brandon Drury off the DL and to Triple-AAA Scranton:
The Yankees faced a difficult decision yesterday as Brandon Drury's time on the major league DL while rehabbing was set to expire and the Yankees needed to either bring him up to the majors or use one of his remaining options and leave him in the minors for the time being.
Drury himself has had a solid rehab, where he has hit .315/.433/.481 (.914 OPS) with a set of home runs and 7 RBI's. But, he has openly admitted that his symptoms have not entirely receded since the diagnosis and I believe the Yankees are letting him play against easier opponents while they hope his symptoms go away.
Clint Frazier to the MLB?
In an entirely speculative move, it appears that Josh Norris has some information about the Yankees announcing later today that Clint Frazier is going to joining the big league squad- at least temporarily.
With Brett Gardner (.227/.353/.298; 1 HR, 13 RBI's) and Aaron Hicks (.215/.327/.376; 3 HR, 15 RBI's) both playing really poor offense this season the Yankees may be looking to inspire the two veterans in the big leagues with a move. Frazier himself is hitting .323/.408/.645 with 4 HR in the minors this season after recovering from a concussion in Spring Training.
The Yankees could use a solid left or center-field offensive presence on the team currently to help save the bullpen (Chapman, D-Rob, Betances, Green, etc.) from overuse and I believe that Frazier could light a fire with this team for a few blow-out victories in the coming games.
Robinson Cano PED Suspension?
In very sad news, it appears that future Hall-of-Famer Robinson Cano is currently on some hot water in regards to potential PED-use. A suspension could be announced later today according to Héctor Gómez.
Hopefully this is just rumors, but this could turn into something much bigger. We will update as more information becomes avaliable.
