By Mike Whiteman January 1, 2025 Happy New Year! Tis the time for New Year's Resolutions! The practice of setting goals at the beginning of the year goes back thousands of years, and is still popular today. Personally, I have goals to increase "the three R's" - reading, writing, and running (if my knee cooperates) in 2025. Not only have I been considering resolutions for myself, but I've been pondering ones for the Yankees as well. Here are some ideas. Hal Steinbrenner - Resolve to put the best team possible on the field, without sweating the price. One which I'm sure we all would suggest. Brian Cashman - Add one more impact player/bat to the lineup, be it a second or third baseman. Pull a couple more impact arms for the bullpen from his magic hat.
Aaron Boone - Do all he can to help his team finally grab "what is in front of them". Also, he should vow to "up his game" in terms of bubble blowing: https://baseballhall.org/discover/museum/whole-new-ballgame/striking-a-blow Aaron Judge - Vow to join the exclusive club of players who have won three or more Most Valuable player awards and likely lock in future enshrinement in the Hall of Fame. https://www.mlb.com/news/most-mlb-mvp-awards-c294414636 Luis Gil - Prove to bloggers like myself, who proposed he be dealt for Kyle Tucker, the cliche "sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make" by winning the 2025 Cy Young Award.
Luke Weaver - Continue his story of transformation from mediocre starter to impact reliever while being one more the more thoughtful players on in the sport. Carlos Rodon - Keep that chip on the shoulder he seems to have in check when he's on the mound, and build on his solid 2024 season. Giancarlo Stanton - Post only the October calendar page in his locker. Perhaps it will inspire postseason-type results during the summer months (per baseball-reference, his postseason performance would translate to 71 home runs, 158 RBI over a 162-game season). Anthony Volpe - Pick up 2025 where he left off with his successful 2024 postseason. Gerrit Cole - Put in speed/sprint training this winter for those groundballs hit to the first baseman (sorry, I couldn't resist).
Oswaldo Cabrera - Try to smile on occasion. This of course is a joke, as Oswaldo is a pleasure to watch due to how much he enjoys the game.
Thank you all for a great 2024 of talking Yankee baseball! I'm excited to see where 2025 takes us. Best wishes for you and your families for a happy and healthy New Year.
Marcus Stroman---- stand and wait.
