The goal is to give themselves a chance to stay in the race w/ Judge back." (Tweet)

Afternoon Discussion:

On The Baltimore Orioles:

The Baltimore Orioles are going for it...in the rumor market. It's an interesting thing seeing the Orioles so heavily involved in trade rumors and with the biggest names that could be on the market. Seeing Justin Verlander or Dylan Cease on the Orioles would be a huge move for them, and not just for this season. I'm wondering how those conversations are going in terms of money and prospects because they could deal a lot.

On Brad Hand:

Brad Hand has been moving around a lot in recent years, and with his trade to the Atlanta Braves from earlier today, he is set to become the first player to play on all 5 teams in the NL East (Braves, Marlins, Nationals, Phillies, Mets). Just a fun little note and a good player to remember for the Immaculate Grid going forward. (Like Kelly Johnson and Steve Pierce with the AL East.)

On The St. Louis Cardinals:

It appears that the St. Louis Cardinals are trying to do a move like the Yankees circa-2016 in selling off short-term assets to acquire some good prospects while keeping the team open to going for a run in 2024 while the likes of Arenado, Goldschmidt, and more. I'd be shocked to see them without a major move in dishing away an outfielder. Maybe the Twins could be an option with them needing some right-handed hitters.

On Justin Verlander:

Wow. He's back to the Astros just a few months after leaving them. That was quick. A great return back by the New York Mets. What an amazing deal this turned out for the Mets in the course of a few days by trading away players on deals with a lot of money left. So what they are eating a lot of money? Steve Cohen doesn't care because the team will still be profitable. The Yankees could learn a lesson here (i.e. Giancarlo Stanton). The Astros with Verlander are coming to the Bronx on Thursday. What a reunion that will be...

On Harrison Bader:

He's not in the line-up today after taking batting practice earlier. Could be big signs that the Yankees are willing to trade from players they're going to lose soon anyway. He's a fine player who will get an okay return, but he's not a cornerstone outfielder for a championship club. If the Yankees want to be serious about contending moving forward, it's time for them to move on from Bader for good.

On the Yankees (as of 4PM):

The worst thing to do is to do nothing at all. I'm firmly on the "sell" train, but if they don't do anything at the trade deadline, not only am I going to feel like I wasted a day doing this (at least I've been doing home renovation in the meanwhile), but I'm also going to be annoyed because they would show how incompetent the front office is.

On Keynan Middleton:

HAHAHAHAHAHA. You've got to be kidding me. A rental reliever who had an ERA+ under 90 in 2020, 2021, and 2022? This year he has a 111 ERA+, fine. But this was not the move. I can't wait to see what Cashman got fleeced for. No third baseman on this team. No left fielder. No 3rd guy in the rotation that you can actually trust. This front office is a joke.

My take: if you a NYY who's a FA after the season, no contending team wants you.

It's time for Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman to meet the media to explain this disaster and actually own it.

They didn't buy.

They didn't sell.

They did prove that they are a joke.

Incompetence. Plain and simple.
