Thurman in the Background

December 14, 2023

***

I saw a fun Tweet (is it an X?) - A person is looking for baseball cards where Thurman Munson made a cameo appearance. The original Tweet is below.

Here are the cards that he and others found:

(Note under the original Tweet, the follow-up Tweet stating that on the Jake Gibbs card, the player might be Tom Tresh... hummmmm.....)

A lot of the Topps photos were taken at Yankee or Shea Stadium because Topps was based here. As for Tresh/Munson, it's certainly possible, depending on when the photos were taken. Tresh's last game before the trade to Detroit was June 11, and Munson's first MLB game was August 8.

Respondendo a

we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.

But it remains that a great team is always strong in the middle

and that a great catcher is a great advantage

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
