I've seen reports over the last decade or so from guys that are either national or former beat media, that agents no longer grant the Yankees the option of matching offers. As well, Cashman had gotten so good at the small deals, like hoping Victor Gonzalez is the next successful one, that he's forgotten how to really go big. The Yankees still have a chance to redeem themselves from not being able to sign Yamamoto. They are currently pursuing Cuban pitcher Yariel Rodriguez, and again, they have lots of competition. The Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, and Pittsburgh Pirates are also vying for his services. Rodriguez has an impressive track record, with a 3.06 ERA and 645 strikeouts, and could be a valuable addition to the Yankees’ rotation with his imposing presence and high velocity pitches. He has played in the Cuban National Series and most recently in Japan’s NPB league for the Chunichi Dragons. I just looked at MLB's list of the TOP 30 Yankee prospects for 2020
and found that 29 of them are playing in the majors.
must note that Florial (no 6 prospect) is listed...... and that I suspect that might undergo revision.
