You are wrong about Dominguez. The Yankees have rehabbed 3 position players from TJS. All have been back in 9 months or less. All have played the field upon their return. Hicks was the only one to baby his arm, but he was back the fastest by far. This is one medical thing the Yankees have gotten right. Right now the OF is Judge-Florial-Periera. Florial is the stopgap replacement for Dominguez. Whether it's trade or a free agent addition, Florial only gives Cashman incentive to add an OF. It's a free agent, CF/3rd OF in Spring becomes Pereira's to lose. It wouldn't surprise me if it's a free agent, Florial is DFA, so there is a roster s…

No one knows what will happen with Dominguez. The safe bet is to assume that he'll DH in 2024. He might play the outfield. Heck Aaron Rodgers might play this season for the Jets.

BUT, basing 2024 on Dominguez playing the outfield, to me, is a bad strategy.

One thing to consider about signing this guy or that guy, how do you get rid of certain guys to make room? Personally, I believe Schmidt will be traded. I believe 2 catchers will be non tendered. I believe either Torres or Peraza will be traded. If they make a trade for an OF, I believe Pereira will be going back in the trade, or be handed the stopgap OF job for Dominguez, which means that Florial will be gone.

As Tim Kabel pointed out yesterday in the Start Spreading the News Tuesday Discussion, Volpe's Gold Glove will make it very difficult to move him off shortstop now. So Peraza at short and Volpe at second is unlikely.

I agree with Alan B. that one of either Torres or Peraza will be traded, but I suspect that Peraza is not a fit for the Padres in a potential deal for Soto, and he will be a complementary piece to a larger deal rather than a headliner.

Cashman should sign Yamamoto immediately before someone else snatches him up, and then pivot to put the Soto deal together before he does anything else. Without Soto (or perhaps Ohtani) and Yamamoto, any other…
