Guys, you got the money wrong. You're forgetting Donaldson was on the books this year for $6M, and next year that spot will be Rizzo's, so that is $17M less right there. Torres leaving is another $14.1, and Verdugo was $8.7M. Kahnle & Loaisiga are a combined over $8M for over a combined $45M right off right there. Dominguez is sliding into Verdugo's spot. The Soto advantage for the Yankees is that last year he counted for $31M, so, even if he gets $51M AAV, it really is only a $20M addition.

The buyouts are guaranteed money and are taxed during the seasons the player is actually on the roster not in the season after the option is declined. Check Cot's Baseball Contracts. So Donaldson counted nothing against the luxury tax this season and Rizzo will count nothing against the luxury tax in 2025. Of course it's still 6 million real dollars. Not sure if it's paid out all at once or not.


The Yankees are only saving $11 million against the luxury tax on Rizzo in 2025 not $17 million.
