Rickey learned how to be the great base stealer he had been from Davey Lopes. Unlike Rickey, Davey Lopes was NOT blessed with great speed. Yet, he still amassed very high stolen base totals anyway. He did so, because he was a master at studying pitchers and their moves and their tendencies, and Lopes would masterfully know the exact second to start his steal.
