The Yankees have been hit and hit hard by injuries to their starting pitchers this spring, without question. Even before it was announced that their ace -- and former Cy Young Award winner -- Gerrit Cole would be lost for the season to Tommy John surgery, they had already lost Luis Gil, last year’s Rookie of the Year in the American League, to a lat injury that reportedly will sideline him for a couple of months at least.

It is a lot, without question. But it’s still not what the Dodgers had to endure, just with their starting pitching, last season. If the Yankees…

We will disagree on this. For you, a great player has to be made up of talent and performance in many areas. Fair enough.


Remember this discussuion stated though when you said that Juan Soto was a "very average player."


So, I'll use the word "great" below, but this started with you saying that Soto was merely a very average player.


I guess, for you, a pitcher cannot be a great player (outside of Ohtani, Ruth, Ruffing, and very few others) because a pitcher isn't a hitter, thus he can't do five things well. That's fine. We are each entitled to our own definition of what it means to be a great player.


I believe pitchers can be great.
