You can't shut down healthy pitchers in baseball, for a w.hole bunch of reasons, including the fact, the rosters are really no longer expanded. That's why you really also can't bench Stanton, or shut down Judge.

For a kid in the minors, I want to see minimum of 25 starts and about 130IP. In the Majors, you go from about 25 MiLB reg. season GS to about 31GS. To me, yes, I give Schmidt his scheduled 2 last starts (thanks to losing the Monday off day).
