GOOD PODCAST!

I am concerned about the Guardians.

Anything can happen in a short series.

And, over 2022, the Guardians have shown that they can, at times, play right with the best teams:

They were:

2-1 vs the Dodgers

3-1 vs the Padres

4-2 vs the Rays

5-2 vs Toronto

All playoff teams. (A combined 14-6, a .700 winning percentage)

***

(To be fair, they also had a losing record against the Astros and the Mariners, but the point still stands - they can play great baseball against the teams still in it.)

***

Yes, they were 1-5 vs the Yankees, but... they played against the Yankees in the first half of the season. The Yankees' record on July …

Fair points regarding their performance against other good, playoff-caliber teams. However, the larger point regarding how the teams match up on paper, particularly Cleveland's proclivity to hit soft shots around the infield and shallow outfield against the Yankees' superior defense, should take a lot of pressure off of the Yankees' offense.

On paper, the Yankees should prevail the majority of the time in a series against Cleveland. If the Yankees lose this series, I think some real soul searching is in order.

the Guardians simply are not scary.

they only will prevail if the Yankees screw it up

Well, assume Cole loses both his starts due to gopher infestation. Then all Cleveland needs to do is pick off one more game, perhaps courtesy of 1-for-12 RISP hitting or an Albert Abreu three-run 11th inning.

The Yankees should sweep if they play the way they have, can and should. I also can easily see them choking. Again. Like they did all July and August.

"This charming and meticulously researched book will remind you of baseball’s power to change and enrich lives far beyond the diamond."

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
