August 18, 2024

This week we ask our readers to respond to this question:

When is it time to be concerned that Anthony Volpe might not be a good enough big league hitter?

Here is the thing with Anthony Volpe. He has always had a HIGH CEILING as a prospect. He has not yet come close to reaching that ceiling, but he is more than capable of reaching those heights. The key is to not give up on him and having the RIGHT hitting coach work with him. There should absolutely NOT be an "organizational" way or a "Yankee analytical way" of coaching hitters to hit better or coaching pitchers to pitch better. Every player is an individual and has different ways of unlocking their true potential.

CHANGE OF SCENERY: We hear that all the time. But it is more than just a common baseball cliche. It is a REAL THING. I…

OK - tell us the hitter prospects who didn't make it with the Yankees who went elsewhere and became at least regular players. Otherwise your arguments don't hold any water.

A bit off topic here, but I guess MLB is allowing for a 27th man for tonight's LL Classic game, and Dominguez got the call. Now, where will Domiguez play, and where will he bat? I'm playing him in LF, and batting him in the leadoff spot.

Want to see a riot before this week's Democratic Convention, goto Williamsport tonight or wait at Yankee Stadium for Cashman tomorrow morning for Cashman to show up if they did not play Dominguez tonight. Oh, my opinion, based on what I've seen through the subscription, Dominguez gets closer (a fully healthy swing) by the day with the bat.

Tonight's lineup is out. Dominguez is in LF and batting 5th.

For the first 80 games of this season, Volpe was slashing .270/.328/.408 with a bit of pop and speed, along with his solid defense. So, I think Volpe has it in him to be a contributor on offense at 6th/7th spot in the lineup. He's also only 23 years and I think still grappling at consistency. I say the Yanks should have a long leash and add offensive firepower elsewhere.

It seems that the Yankees have little choice. They've made their bed with Volpe and now they have to sleep in it.

He's young, they rushed him last season. He should have played an entire season at AAA in 2023. Instead, he had appox. 30 AAA games in 2022. Not enough in my book to make a sound decision, especially when you consider the SS free agent market in winter of 2022 and Seager in 2021 (more on that).

Fast forward now to 2024 and they don't have those excuses anymore.

I made it crystal clear here that Seager was the right SS choice moving forward at the end of 2021. If either Peraza or Volpe (or someone else in the system like Sweeney) proved MLB ready at some point, they could easily pivot and move Seager to 3rd base or mov…

I'd love to see what Kevin Long could do with him!!!

With the RIGHT hitting coach coaching Volpe the right way, Volpe WILL reach his very high ceiling, which he is not close to right now. That is all it takes. And the RIGHT hitting coach, be it K-Long or anyone else, must have 100% freedom to coach HIS way with his OWN hitting philosophies, not the "organization's way" or the way that analytics supposedly dictate it should be done.
