SSTN Top Prospects: #25-21

James Vliestra assembles and analyses all of the top Yankees prospect names to know! Today we feature ranks #25-21!

Clayton Beeter (CF):

Age (As of 4/1/23): 24.4 Years Old

Height/Weight: 6'2" & 220 Pounds

Acquired: Acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers for Joey Gallo

Rule 5 Eligible: December, 2023

2022 Review:

The Dodgers signed Beeter for $1.2M as a 1st round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. He started the year with the Dodgers in 2022. In 51.2 innings he struck out 15.3/9, but walked 6.1/9, with a WHIP north of 1.6. His season took a dramatic change for the better upon his trade to the Yankees as part of the Joey Gallo trade. In his 25.1 innings at Somerset he maintained his impressive 14.6 K/9 rate. His hits/9 (5.7) and BB/9 (3.9) rates improved tremendously.

2023 Preview:

Which Beeter is the real Beeter? Yankees fans are hoping it's the latter. If so, he'll be working in Scranton pushing for a promotion.

2023 Preseason Cross-Publication Prospect Rankings:

Analysis of Rankings:

Most of the rankings have Beeter as a Top-15 prospect. If so, Cashman absolutely stole him.

Agustin Ramirez (C):

Age (As of 4/1/23): 21.5 Years Old

Height/Weight: 6'0" & 210 Pounds

Acquired: Signed as an International Free Agent in 2018 for $400K

Rule 5 Eligible: December, 2023

2022 Review:

Last year Ramirez had a breakout season with the FCL team. He knocked in 51 runs in only 44 games to go along with his .892 OPS and 1.016 V-Rating.

2023 Preview:

This year he should get his shot at full season Tampa. I can see him forcing the Yankees to think long and hard about protecting him from the Rule-5 Draft even though he's three years away from the majors.

2023 Preseason Cross-Publication Prospect Rankings:

Analysis of Rankings:

Ramirez doesn't have many believers. Yet.

Ron Marinaccio (RHP):

Age (As of 4/1/23): 27.7 Years Old

Height/Weight: 6'2" & 205 Pounds

Acquired: Drafted in the 19th Round of the 2017 MLB First Year Player Draft

Rule 5 Eligible: Currently on the 40-Man Roster

2022 Review:

Marinaccio made his MLB debut in 2022. And what an impressive debut it was! In 40 games (44 innings), he had a 2.05 ERA 1.045 WHIP, 11.5 K/9, and +1.2 WAR.

2023 Preview:

His rookie eligibility remains intact as he pitched under 50 innings. He's expected to be a key cog of an extremely formidable bullpen. Having options also means his roster status will be flexible in case there's a need for a rested arm.

2023 Preseason Cross-Publication Prospect Rankings:

Analysis of Rankings:

He is going to be pitching important Major League innings all year. What else can you ask for out of a prospect? It's amazing he isn't considered much. Apparently most wanted more? I can't believe it.

Tyler Hardman (3B):

Age (As of 4/1/23): 24.1 Years Old

Height/Weight: 6'3" & 205 Pounds

Acquired: Drafted in the 5th Round of the 2021 MLB First Year Player Draft

Rule 5 Eligible: December, 2024

2022 Review:

He played almost all of 2022 with Hudson Valley. He hit 22 home runs and led the organization with 81 RBIs. His OPS for the year was .783. He was sent to the Arizona Fall League where he flourished to a 1.036 OPS.

2023 Preview:

He will start the year in Somerset. There's not a lot of depth in the system at third base. Should he continue to pace the organization in driving in runs, he will eventually get an opportunity in the majors.

2023 Preseason Cross-Publication Prospect Rankings:

Analysis of Rankings:

Seems that most publications don't view him very highly.

Deivi Garcia (RHP):

Age (As of 4/1/23): 23.5 Years Old

Height/Weight: 5'9" & 160 Pounds

Acquired: Signed as an International Free Agent in 2015 for $200K

Rule 5 Eligible: Currently on the 40-Man Roster (and is Out of Options)

2022 Review:

Pre-pandemic, Deivi Garcia rocketed through the system emerging as a high strike out potential ace candidate. Since then, something has changed...for the worse. And at a tremendous rate. Gone are the talks of him being a top prospect with a 5+ K/W ratio. Last year in 64 innings he gave up 56 runs, 60 hits, and walked 32 batters. All terrible numbers. He did manage to strike out 10.7/9 though.

2023 Preview:

Did the Yankees tinker with his delivery? Is he injured? How does a top prospect just lose it so drastically and suddenly? Well, he is only 23, so he has time to find it again. However he is out of options so unless he finds it during spring training he may find it wearing another uniform.

2023 Preseason Cross-Publication Prospect Rankings:

Analysis of Rankings:

Mostly he's not even included on the top prospect lists. What a wonderful surprise it would be if he could figure it out. We're not giving up all hope just yet.

Still way too many guys in this organization signed in 2019 or earlier that have yet to sniff full season ball. Guys need to get into the system and play or be let go. I'm tired of hearing about a 40 man crunch because of continuingly slow footing guys through the system so they really don't know what they can do.

Replying to

Fundamentally there’s something broken in the system when a player like Yoendrys Gomez can sign in 2016, and after this year he will have been in the organization for 8 seasons. In 2024-26 he would finally earn MLB minimum salary. 27-29 will be his arbitration eligible seasons and then finally 2030, after 14 years in the organization and 10 on the 40-man roster

Apparently I was incorrect regarding Garcia having options. He looked good in camp. Would love him to rebound. He’s still young enough to be extremely valuable again
