Special July 4 Readers' Thread

July 4, 2024

***

This from reader Alan:

If you were GM, what moves would you make to fix the Yankees? Since this is a bit of fantasy, forget about the CBT. Trades, demotions, firings, which prospects would you be willing to trade, or what would it take to pry one of your untouchables etc?

Readers, share your thoughts....

Have fun and be respectful.

Unfortunately, I would not be able to fix the Yankees for this season. I would want to hold onto Judge, Cole, and re-sign Soto, and hold on to those three. Then, a fire sale to get rid of all the other players, and completely rebuild the farm system from the ground up. Trade their remaining veterans for the best prospects from other organizations they are actually able to get for those players, include prospects as part of trades to get better prospects of other organizations, then hire the best scouts that money can buy to draft the best players out of high schools, colleges, and the international draft. Since they won't have high draft picks due to their previous succe…

The problem starts at the top so I will, too.

First, get a crack team of business people, pycologists, baseball lifers, shamans and witch doctors to get into Hal Steinbrenners’ head. Try getting him to understand basic concepts. Such as, it takes money to make money. All competitors are not created equal. Identify your advantages and exploit them. When undertaking a task, approach it to succeed, never “half ass” it. You cannot succeed if you are afraid to fail. Baseball is a team game defined by individual performances. Parts need to fit and glaring holes will undo your chances of winning much more than a couple of top shelf parts will help it. Doing the same thing over and over…

I am a Yankee fan.... but not a blind one... Wells is catcher #1 and Rice the backup, so goodbye Trevino include him in a trade w/SF for LWJr. He is your 1B. Next up, trade Torres or release him at deadline. Peraza, welcome to Bronx... he replaces Torres. Next up LaMahieu keep him for rest of this year at 3B. Keep Cabrera and play him as needed. Release Davis, Jones. For all intent and purposes Dominguez is most likely done for the year. Regarding SP for the rest of this year I roll with existing staff (controversial, but Schmidt will come off IL) stay the course. BP will have some need upgrades there must be someone on the fa…

The Least Among Them.png

"This charming and meticulously researched book will remind you of baseball’s power to change and enrich lives far beyond the diamond."

—Jonathan Eig, New York Times best-selling author of Luckiest Man, Opening Day, and Ali: A Life

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
