Readers' Thread: The Ace?

January 12, 2025

***

Let's have some fun this week.

Looking ahead to 2025... which Yankees starter will be the ace (best starter) of the staff? (An argument can be made for Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, or Luis Gil. Are there others?)

It is Cole. He also is the best PC the Yankees have. Look at how the Yankees starters did after he started his own pitching. Coincidence? I think not.

Now could someone else have a great year, so you might want another guy to pitch that big game? Sure, like Luis Gil in his first 12 or 13 starts last year. Or Clarke Schmidt before his injury too. BUT that's best on performance of that year, or even that time of the year, not on track record. An Ace is based on track record.

Cole is still ace if hes healthy. The question is, is Rodon a $28mm number 4?
