Gehrig blows the doors off everyone else with 70 more WAR than Mattingly at No. 2. Wally Pipp at No. 3. Then Giambi, Teixiera and Tino.

i did not scroll down any further than the comment box. i wanted to make my initial thought before reading what anyone else posted.

in my personal all time list, the top 2 are very clear

  1. Gehrig- zero debate

  2. Pujols- his first 10 years compare to any 10 period of any player in all MLB history and he is one of only 3 clean players to hit over 700 HR. second all time in RBI

after that I am sure there are some older players that i am not as aware of as I should be, but I think there are a LOT of excellent 1b. my guess is that a very solid case could be made for anywhere fro…

I was hanging out with Santa and only have a minute, but here's my quick list:

  1. Gehrig

  2. Matting

  3. Pipp

  4. Skowron

  5. Trying to decide between Chambliss and Tino. The stats probably say Tino, my heart says Chambliss.

of course, the great John Sturm led his Yankee team to victory in the World Series in his rookie season.

then he went off to lead the US to victory in WWII

and thereby sacrificed his prime baseball years which is probably why he's been overlooked for election to the Hall of Fame.

In my opinion, there is #4 (Gehrig), then #23 (Mattingly). Who is #3,or #4 is really up to interpretation. Is it Moose followed by Chambliss, or does Chambliss before Moose, and what about Tino and Jasson Giambi?

Since I love being different, can I move Mickey to 1B, since the Yankees have so many great OFs, so one of those deserving guys would make the list? It is just amazing if you look at the Yankees, so many great players and all the positions, and even guys in my age bracket, saw so many of these guys. Like I was there when Bernie made his MLB debut on my 23rd birthday, or when a kid, Don Mattingly came up, or …
