Readers' Thread: Cashman's Midterm Grade?

December 22, 2024

***

Okay, I'll go out on a limb here. I'm giving Brian Cashman an A for this off-season so far.

Ace starter - Check

Great closer - Check

Solid OF/1B - Check

Veteran 1b On Reasonable Contract - Check

Long Shot Power Bullpen Arm - Check

Right now the Yankees are doing fantastic.

For the Readers' Thread... What grade do you give Brian Cashman for the 2024 off-season (so far)?

IMPORTANT NOTE - If I check the site (I do not spend all day here) and I see people insulting others ("You have a third grade education" and such) I will delete the comment(s). If you have an issue with this, reach out to me directly - not in the comments. We are, and always have been, the site where people can disagree respectfully without being insulted. Let's keep it that way.

I'm good so far, but kinda Question the Length of the contract for Freid ?? 6 yrs wasn't enough??, leaving more $$ for a 3B..?? Much rather have had Walker than Goldy.!!!, otherwise Grade B...

3b..is the most important position, Left for last ?? 🤔 🤔☮️

the number of years have nothing to do with how much money we have for THIS YEAR, 2025.

he costs us 27 million and change for this year. that is the cost to the 2025 payroll that will impact how much room we do or do not have to add other players

how many years is a different conversation. will he be worth 27+ million for 8 years? honestly, i have not heard a single person say they believe that the Yankees are going to be paying for a lot of bad years

I think the idea is always that, yes, there will be some years at the end that a player may not live up to the dollars. th…

Please permit me to comment on Paul’s note.

We are all of different backgrounds, professions, ages, ethnicity and religions. We live in different parts of the country, have different hobbies and I suspect differing views on everything from politics to our favorite color.

But, the tie that binds to bring us together here is our mutual affinity for the New York Yankees Baseball Club. We are all passionate and opinionated. If we were not, we wouldn’t be here!

We don't always agree. Would be pretty boring if we did. Everyone’s opinion is valuable and worth considering. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect whether we agree with them or not. Personally, I’ve always learned a lot more by listening ra…

I'm seeing speculation (no idea how based in fact it may be) that Torres would sign for $25-28 million for two years. That likely would be cheaper than Arenado and for a year less. I was happy to cut ties with Torres after this season, but he might be the best remaining option to solve the 2B/3B issue.

I think JDom has the best leadoff skills. yet, i absolutely DO NOT want them to put that pressure on him. he is already facing enough expectations. PLEASE do not let him bat leadoff

minus that, I believe Bellinger is the best choice. the problem is who bats second in that scenario?

the best thing for Bellinger would be bat him in front of Judge. i believe we would see Bellinger match or top his 2022 numbers, IF we put him directly in front of Judge. how do we do that? if we had a good choice for 3 batter, I would be totally fine with Bellinger 1, Judge 2, then what?

I think Wells could be a solid leadoff…

Grade: D

Solid pitching (on paper)

Lost Soto

HUGE MISS on Tucker (to hold on to a mediocre pitcher)

Brought in washed up players: Bellinger and Goldschmidt.

Offense will be atrociously bad.

Lost Soto

gee, I woulda sworn that Soto is not even remotely lost. he knows exactly where he is

and Boras probably knows just as well.

as far as the suggestion that Cashman bears responsibility for Soto's free agency and decision to accept a contract with a team other than the Yankees, I would emphatically reject such assertion.

Offense will be atrociously bad.

no, the obviously offensive stuff is far from atrocious, it's merely meritless

It’s supposed to be a midterm grade so by definition incomplete.

Hard not to give at least an “A-“.

First instinct was a “B”,”B+” because they did not find a way to keep Soto or get Tucker. Upon reflection neither of these was happening. Cohen was desperate and would not be outbid. Cashman did force him to stratospheric levels to keep him. Crane was never dealing Tucker to the Yankees. Will have to wait until next off season to acquire him for just a few hundred million of Hal’s money. So, its hard to downgrade him for that.

He pivoted just about as well as could be expected. They clearly had a plan B and are executing it. They corre…
