***

Okay, I'll go out on a limb here. I'm giving Brian Cashman an A for this off-season so far.

Ace starter - Check

Great closer - Check

Solid OF/1B - Check

Veteran 1b On Reasonable Contract - Check

Long Shot Power Bullpen Arm - Check

Right now the Yankees are doing fantastic.

For the Readers' Thread... What grade do you give Brian Cashman for the 2024 off-season (so far)?

IMPORTANT NOTE - If I check the site (I do not spend all day here) and I see people insulting others ("You have a third grade education" and such) I will delete the comment(s). If you have an issue with this, reach out to me directly - not in the comments. We are, and always have been, the site where people can disagree respectfully without being insulted. Let's keep it that way.

GM'ing, like politics, is the Art of the Possible. Sure, we want good defense at 2B, plus someone who can hit. But there's no young Willie Randolph to obtain. If we move Chisholm back to 2B, that becomes a solid two-way position, but it leaves 3B open. Bregman is too expensive (and a Cheatro, to which I object), Arenado is aging and expensive (depending on the Cardinal's appetite for salary-eating), there are no internal options other than a DJ/Oswaldo platoon (yuck), so what's left? Maybe Josh Rojas? Yoan Moncada? Jon Berti, The Sequel? Have the Yankees painted themselves into a (hot) corner?

And no, I didn't write the whole comment just to get that last-line joke in.

You're kinder than I am Cary. At least I wasn't my total just beat on Cashman without reasons, because you know I just 🖤 to beat on Cashman.

Merry Christmas/Happy Chanukah, or whatever.

I'm good so far, but kinda Question the Length of the contract for Freid ?? 6 yrs wasn't enough??, leaving more $$ for a 3B..?? Much rather have had Walker than Goldy.!!!, otherwise Grade B...

3b..is the most important position, Left for last ?? 🤔 🤔☮️

the number of years have nothing to do with how much money we have for THIS YEAR, 2025.

he costs us 27 million and change for this year. that is the cost to the 2025 payroll that will impact how much room we do or do not have to add other players

how many years is a different conversation. will he be worth 27+ million for 8 years? honestly, i have not heard a single person say they believe that the Yankees are going to be paying for a lot of bad years

I think the idea is always that, yes, there will be some years at the end that a player may not live up to the dollars. th…

Please permit me to comment on Paul’s note.

We are all of different backgrounds, professions, ages, ethnicity and religions. We live in different parts of the country, have different hobbies and I suspect differing views on everything from politics to our favorite color.

But, the tie that binds to bring us together here is our mutual affinity for the New York Yankees Baseball Club. We are all passionate and opinionated. If we were not, we wouldn’t be here!

We don't always agree. Would be pretty boring if we did. Everyone’s opinion is valuable and worth considering. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect whether we agree with them or not. Personally, I’ve always learned a lot more by listening ra…

I'm seeing speculation (no idea how based in fact it may be) that Torres would sign for $25-28 million for two years. That likely would be cheaper than Arenado and for a year less. I was happy to cut ties with Torres after this season, but he might be the best remaining option to solve the 2B/3B issue.

Agree that Dominguez should not be but in that position. We saw what happened with Volpe last year.

I agree with most of this. As of now, Bellinger certaily seems to be the best choice. His OBP last year was .325. For comparison, Torres was at .330. However, Cody was at .356 in’23.

If Arenado is indeed brought aboard, slotting him in front of Judge may be just the elixir he needs to restore his offensive prowess. I much prefer an Arenado deal to the Bregman option. Don’t want to commit $30mm+/- for 7 or 8 years to a third baseman on the wrong side of 30 if I don’t have to.

Your lineup looks lethal.
