WOW!
This was a game filled with great pitching, some tremendous defense, and Paul Goldschmidt collecting 60% of the Yankees' hits. He also made a tremendous play on a groundball with a runner on third to prevent the run from scoring.
Win - Carlos Rodon (6 ip, 2 hits, 0 runs, 9 strikeouts, 4 walks)
Save - Luke Weaver (1 ip, 2 strikeouts)
Paul Goldschmidt: 3-for-4, 1 run
Trent Grisham: 1-for-3, rbi
Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-3
Full recap from Tim Kabel tomorrow morning.
The fun of Rodon is that any day he can toss a stinker, or else start a stretch in which he looks like Cy Young for a couple months.
big night for Rodon.
they had convinced him that he should mix in change-ups and slow curves
but, in several previous outings, if he could not immediately command those things, he sorta abandoned them.
he began the game unable to commend them, but kept mixing them in
and, with the help of the slop, he had right-handed hitters hesitant. repeatedly, he had them unable to square up stuff on the outside part of the plate.
can he reproduce this sort of performance?
Yankees still look pretty awful, not going anywhere.
