Quick Hit: Yanks Lose Again

August 18, 2023

***

Another night, another loss. This time, the Red Sox won 8-3.

The Yankees have now lost 6 in a row.

The Yankees are two games under .500. (Remember when I said that one game under would be a high water mark.)

In August, the Yankees are 5-11. The Yankees have all but given up on the season.

I always loved the Rocky movies. I have watched them all a million times. Rocky Balboa has many redeeming qualities, but the one I most admire is his heart. He might have been knocked down, a lot, but he always got up again.

The 2023 Yankees are the opposite of the character Rocky Balboa. They don't seem to have any fight in them. When they're knocked down, they stay down.

If Rocky (the original) was about this year's Yankees, they wouldn't have taken the fight.

If Rocky II were about the 2023 Yankees, there wouldn't have been two fighters struggling for the ropes at the end. The 2023 Yankees would have stayed on the canvas.

In Rocky III, when Apollo told Rocky that "There is no tomorrow," The Yankees would have said, "You're right." The credits would have then rolled.

In Rocky IV, when Drago said, "I must break you," the Yankees would have broken.

In Rocky V, if the Yankees fought Tommy Gunn, they would have died on the street.

In Rocky Balboa, when Paulie said, "It takes a lot of guts to get back in the ring," the Yankees would have thought it over and said, "You know, you're right. The restaurant is doing well enough. I don't need to fight any longer."

It would be one thing if it seemed like the Yankees had any character and fight in them, but it doesn't seem like they do.

I wonder how much longer the Boss is going to let this team go backwards before he makes a big move...

Enjoy these clips from the Rocky films.

Love the Rocky reference!

But for me, me no have AppleTV, so me no watch that garbage. Instead I pretty much watched all of Somerset's 22-3 drubbing of Reading. Thorpe dominated tonight. I thought they should've pulled him after 6, up 10-0, but he gave up 2 solo shots in the 7th. Still, 12Ks, 1BB. He pitched up/down/in/out. Then there's Jasson Dominguez, who after tonight is hitting .251, after going 4-6, 4R, SB, BB, 3RBIs. His 3R HR was a MONSTER of a shot to straight away CF. He's now at .327 since July 1 (40 games), with 25 RBIs, 19SBs (23 attempts), with a .474 SLG. Plus he's playing a very solid CF & LF. Why aren't these 2…

The heart is gone. Put Judge on the 60, so he can start that healing process. Give Cabrera RF, Pereira LF, and Peraza at 3B, with DJ finishing the season at 1B. DFA Allen. Sorry, Florial not ready yet, maybe in a week or so. Wells not quite ready yet either. Don't want to give LeMaheiu 1B, fine, what about giving it to Chapparo? Yes, he'll have a high K rate, but let's see what we have with him at 1B. Around the bag, he reminds me of Chris Chambliss - not much range, but good on the scoops. Oh, in case you missed it, I do not want to see Anthony Rizzo again this year.
