Quick Hit: Yankees Win Battle of Last Place Clubs

May 8, 2023

***

Well, they did what they had to do.

The struggling Yankees won the first game against the lowly Oakland A's.

Good teams must feast on the teams that are not as good as they are. The Yankees did that tonight. They won 7-2.

The Yankees hit four homers tonight. If you didn't watch the game, it's unlikely you'd be able to guess all four players:

  1. D.J. LeMahieu

  2. Aaron Hicks

  3. Gleyber Torres

  4. Oswaldo Cabrera

Harrison Bader tripled. When he plays, he's been unbelievable. He might make a believer out of me. Maybe. But, let's see him do this over a longer period of time. And let's see him stay on the field. But, to be fair, to start, he's mashing.

Oakland still hasn't won their 10th game of the year. Heck, they still haven't won their ninth...

Nice we can beat a AAA team like the A's.

Metaphysical question: Is a healthy J.P. Sears even worse for a team than an injured Frankie Montas?

I envisioned Bader batting 9th for this team

and combining with Volpe, batting 1st, to give the team real speed on the bags

but Bader's offense, which has looked exemplary, is not as good as his centerfield D.

Im convinced not enough core and stretching exercises are in any NY Yankees player training regimen.

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
