Quick Hit: Yankees Lose Again

I was hoping life after the All-Star Game would be different from before.

Congratulations to Yankee prospect, currently with Somerset, OF Elijah Dunham, who has hit safely in 21 of his last 22 games and reached base in 25 of his last 26 games, for being the reigning back-to-back Eastern League Player of the Week. Dunham may be playing his way into a future with the Yankees OR into a key trading chip, one or the other.

I hope not, because for the RIGHT player, even the best prospects are tradable. I would trade ANY prospect if that was what it would take to add a Tarik Skubal or similar pitcher to the starting rotation.

If it were for a "rental" or someone who is a prime candidate for Tommy John surgery and a long absence from the team as a result (Mason Miller), then I would be reluctant to burn a top prospect for that type of acquisition.

BUT, if that type of acquisition were the ONE player who would put the Yankees over the top and win them a World Series, THEN it would be worth it.

There is a lot of talk about all the prospects, especially Spencer Jones, that the Yankees would have to trade in order to get upgrades at the positions they so dearly need upgrades in. But the Yankees would likely also (or instead) have to part with Major League talent to acquire these upgrades. The Yankees may have to part with quality pitchers like Nestor Cortes and Clark Schmidt to get the upgrades they need.

It depends. If they could get Tarik Skubal, they might be willing to pay that price.

yes, it's been a terrible span, much akin to that bridge over that Kwai River

darn good thing that those 28 games are only a minor subset of the 101 that they've played

My top concern is trading for proven not marginal talent to get this team to the World Series. All of your comments have value and hope that they will be done but right now the Yanks need players who can Hit Field Throw Run and Catch. In other words play smart baseball

I would absolutely make those trades. Good Major League players definitely have to be on the table as well, in return for good Major League players, and as they say, "you have to give up great value to get great value".

This team needs a lot of help and time is ticking

Paul, if you are insisting on a certain player to be in the deal, or you won't go further, OK, I'll give you that player, but if in the bigger sense despite that player now in the deal, do not tell me you still need everything else too. To me, that's more like, I really don't want to make a trade with you unless I'm assured of ripping you off big time. Think Danny Ainge and the Knicks.
