And the Phillies just beat the O's 5-3 in 11 innings. O's 3.5 GB of the Yankees (albeit only 2 in the Loss column).

Not only that, every AL East team lost except for the Yankees, so it was one of those rare days when the Yankees gained on every single team in their division.

Selected Yankee records after 72 games: 2024, 50-22; 2022, 52-20; 1998, 53-19.

Looking good, but have to keep it up and avoid a 41-41 ending to the season.

According to Jomboy, an expert at "reading lips", Verdugo was shouting “HELL YEAH!, LET ME HEAR IT!” as he was running around the bases all fired up after his homer.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
