Quick Hit: Sending a Message

May 23, 2024

***

After losing the first two games against the Mariners, the Yankees responded in the way a championship-type club should, and must...

They came back and won the next two games to split the series.

How about this: Luis Gil: 6 innings, 1 hit allowed, 0 runs (earned or otherwise), 8 strikeouts.

Giancarlo Stanton homered.

Aaron Judge homered.

The bullpen gave a little scare in the 8th, but in the end, the Yankees won!

This is a "problem" that every other team would like to have.

Wonder what happens if all five starters are pitching well when Cole returns? Just thought with all the injuries pitchers have had perhaps they go to a 6 man rotation like they do in Japan

I surely do and also think that not only is it not terrible

but

I also think that his 3.29 is better than Ferguson's or Santana's?

And now the Yankees come out here to Southern California. First, it will be fun in San Diego. Juan Soto's homecoming! I am sure it will be a packed sold out house at Petco Park for that! I know Soto and Tatis Jr are best buddies. Then, I am looking forward to seeing them when they arrive in Anaheim, up the 5 freeway from where I am, where I am expecting the Yankee hitters to do well against the Angels pitching staff.

Thanks. Ohtani and Trout were the Angels biggest draws and with both of them gone (Trout due to injury), the Angels don't have a major gate attraction at the moment. Ohtani is sort of an albatross, because he can only be a DH when he is not pitching, so it took the DH spot away from other players who they could have rested by making them the DH so they would at least still have their bats. With the Yankees, Stanton could, on a few rare occasions, actually play in the outfield as he did every day when he was with the Marlins.

Trout is a player I very badly wanted the Yankees to acquire for a very long time,…

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
