Quick Hit: Red Sox Sweep Yankees (It's Over)

by Paul Semendinger

August 20, 2023

***

Give the Yankees credit, they scored five runs. The Red Sox scored six.

The Yankees have now lost 8 games in a row. Will this we the straw that breaks the camel's back? Can the manager keep his job through this? Can the general manager?

Is this acceptable?

When was the last time a Yankees team lost 8 in a row?

When was the last time a Yankees team that was supposed to be good was THIS bad?

It's over.

They keep talking about making the playoffs, but the way they're playing they'll be lucky to finish 81-81.

They'd have to play well above .500 the rest of the way.

The '95 Yankees lost 8 in a row (the last three at Seattle, an omen for the playoffs). It put them at 53-58 (I thought '92 was the last sub-.500 August team, but I was wrong; it was '95). They then went 26-7 to nab the wild card. Somehow I don't think the '23 squad will be playing .788 ball the rest of the way.

Yanks were robbed by the replay center.

But on another note, Wells 2HRs (3R & GS), Florial in CF, 2H,BB, Peraza, 3H, Pereira, 0-2, but 2BB +HBP. Chapparo played a very nice defensive game at 1B. Warren 1R in 5IP, but never could repeat his delivery. But you can get away with it when you pitch in, out, up, & down.

I'm ready to call up Pereira, Florial, & Peraza. Wells i want one more week in AAA with him playing 3 games in the OF/1B, and 3 at Catcher.

The Yankees should have called them up already.

But if they don't before Tuesday, that's a real problem.

There isn't anything left to play for.
