When we're getting near the Trade Deadline, the Yankees should NOT, I repeat, SHOULD NOT, acquire a starting pitcher for the stretch drive. Starting pitching is not a problem of any kind. All 5 starters are capable enough. The focus HAS to instead be on acquiring a GOOD solid reliever to improved the bullpen, preferable a 9th inning closer, so Clay Holmes can pitch the 7th & 8th innings before him. OR, on a acquiring an excellent hitting 3B, who is also an above average fielder. Two much BIGGER NEEDS than starting pitching on this Yankee ballclub.

I think Holmes is pitching so well, that he might better serve the Yankees by pitching 2 innings instead of just 1. He could pitch 2 innings, the 7th and 8th, if the starter can go at least 6 innings. An effective Holmes can bridge the gap between an effective performance by the starter and a lights out dominating closer, who can slam the door and get guys out 1-2-3.

“It doesn’t matter who you’re facing, once you’re locked in and you’re concentrating on what you want to do, that’s really it. The level of concentration for me has to be high. It’s really important.”

4 runs in 27 innings. 1-7 in the order go 1-for-24 with a walk (the hit and the walk by Soto).

Beautiful game by Gil -- this guy is a Major League starter, no doubt about it. But the Yankee offense is 2023 all over again. 10-10 over last 20 games.

"why are we so quick to think the Orioles are special, but our own Yankees are not?"

The O's have gotten to 20-11 by being good all year. Longest losing streak was 2 games. Longest .500 stretch was 6 games. The Yankees had a hot start (10-2), and now have fallen to 10-11, a .476 stretch over 21 games. The O's are a very good team and have been that good all season. The Yankees are a .500 team, just like in 2023 and the second half of 2022.
