It's about time the Yankees did something. We can argue about what that something (or somethings) should be, but doing nothing would have been unacceptable. Brian Cashman has never fired a coach in the middle of the season, but following today's loss to the Cubs, he announced the firing of MLB Hitting Coach, Dillon Lawson.
Of particular intrigue: Cashman noted that the next Hitting Coach would be from outside of the organization AND would likely be in Colorado with the Yankees by the end of the All-Star break.
We'll have more on this story in the coming days, but everyone needs to be accountable for the mess we've seen this season. This is a start.
I'm with you Paul. Why was this guy ever even hired? In fact, take a look at the rest of this staff. Casey Dykes, Luis Rojas, Desi Druschel? More of the same from this administration!
Of course blame the hitting coach for what ails this team. This team was put together by Cashman and Hal. All they do is swing from the heels and go for a home run. More often than not they strike out, pop up. They are built for power not small ball. Even Charlie Lau could not help this bunch. Their 3 prize rookies can’t hit worth a darn They have guys in the lineup who should not even be on the team let alone in the majors
The first questions that have to be asked are who hired Lawson originally?
If this guy is so bad... Why was he hired? What was his track record before he came to the Yankees?
What happened in NY?
Why didn't it work?
A coach doesn't work in isolation. What were his supports?
