My first comment in tonight's game thread was that this was a statement game. The Yankees made the statement -- they won't let some other playoff team come into their house and wipe the floor with them. This is an important step toward post-season success, notwithstanding that they are still only 44-45 since June 13.

feel free to dispute that the first 70 are more relevant

it's no skin off my elbow

because I made no such assertion.

I dispute your claim that the mid-season swoon is more relevant than the totality of the season-long record.

I regard your desire to emphasis the worst segment of their season as something not to be taken seriously.

it does not demonstrate any real understanding of the length of the baseball season

a six month season allows for several effective methods of ending the regular season with the best record.

a strong start coupled with a strong finish is usually most effective.

Without looking, I'd bet Yaz's 11 WAR year was when he won the Triple Crown in the '60s back when pitching was king. In that context, it's extremely well deserved.

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
