Quick Hit: A Walk in the Park: Yankees 14, Pirates 2

by Paul Semendinger

9/21/22

***

Hey, if they score 14 runs a game, I'm happy.

Oswaldo Cabrera hit a first inning grand slam and that was all the Yankees needed.

Gleyber Torres hit two homers (boom! Boom!!) in the eighth inning.

Harrison Bader looks to be a great player.

Things are looking good in the Bronx.

The Yankees now have 90 wins.

Aaron Judge didn't homer. Maybe #61 will come tomorrow...

Phillies just walked it off on a single in the 10th against the Jays. Magic Number is 8!

A bit more trivia: Ruth 1927, 691 PA, 540 AB. Maris 1961, 698 PA, 590 AB. Judge 2022 (so far) 641 PA, 533 AB. Truly amazing.

ETA: Those stats go to the point that Judge has been hitting lead-off or No. 2 in the line-up and therefore, in theory, has more opportunities to hit home runs. He matched Ruth in more than 50 fewer plate appearances and 11 fewer at-bats, with even bigger differences compared to Maris (which is not to disparage either man's incredible accomplishments).

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
