Quick Hit: 7 Consecutive Losses

August 19, 2023

***

The Yankees had a team meeting yesterday. This was supposed to help the team turn it around.

It didn't.

The Yankees have now lost seven games in a row. Seven.

After losing in humiliating fashion last Sunday, the Yankees have folded.

Since Sunday, they have lost

11-3

5-0

2-0

8-3 and

8-1

(For those keeping score, that's 34-7.)

The Yankees are now 5 games behind the Red Sox... for last place.

It's over.

The Yankees have been knocked out. It's over.

The amazing thing is this offense has been ranked in the bottom five ALL year....runs, hits, on base percentage, walks, slugging percentage, WAR, doubles, RISP, total bases and OPS+. Then you have a handful of players who are obviously either regressing, overrated or blamed.

Gleyber Torres has a career 114OPS+, even if he did have the 3,000 plate appearances needed to qualify he's a top 50 hitter, not bad, but inconsistent. Over the last three years Torres has a 106OPS+ and over the last four he's never had one better than 115. Plus the Yankees really treated the young man poorly when they made him switch positions and should be ashamed of themselves.

D.J. LeMaheu had a second half …

This team reminds me of the '92 Mets sobriquet: The Worst Team Money Could Buy.

Just saw another Pereira HR.. 2nd today! So, maybe we get to see him tomorrow in LF in the Bronx? Just put McKinney on the IL, poof, there's room for him. Personally, I want to see Pereira in uni #30, meaning DFA Allen.

I can't bear to watch this team but I was wondering what the average fan at the game is feeling. Paying exorbitant ticket/concession prices and being treated to a spectacle like the last two days . . . well, is there long and sustained unrest/booing at the appropriate times, like when Boone sticks his head out of the dugout? I can't imagine ANY Yankee other than Judge NOT getting booed off the field. I don't imagine the Yankees have the balls to show/mention Cashman or Steinbrenner lest the Stadium rock off its foundation. Anyway, fans can "vote": stay away, don't buy the overpriced food and crappy merch, tear up that 2024 ticket renewal form.

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
