Perspectives: January 13, 2025

***

I was glad to see the other day that the Yankees fans who interfered with Mookie Betts in the World Series and grabbed him and such are now banned from attending any MLB game and on all MLB properties.

That is exactly what should have happened. At the time, I noted that I was amazed and shocked that the announcers on WFAN were laughing about the situation. They were wrong - as were the callers who thought it was great. It wasn't. At all.

Fans cannot be toughing the athletes in that manner. And when they do, it cannot be tolerated.

***

The MLB rumor mill has the Yankees linked to every single player who ever lived, it seems.

"The Yankees are looking into Rogers Hornsby for second base. He's been dead for many decades, but when he played, he could hit and the Yankees are hoping that maybe he can recapture some of that magic..."

It's getting silly, some of the rumors.

***

I have a sense that the Yankees will make one more big move to address third base. I don't think they're playing games any longer by not putting their best team out there from the start.

I hope I am correct about this.

***

The Mets have a big decision with Pete Alonso. He is a one-dimensional player, but he is a life-long Met. He plays first base, but if signed, that probably takes the Mets out of the running for Vlad Guerrero for 2026.

It'll be interesting how this plays out.

***

If Vlad Guerrero is a free agent next year, I can see the Mets paying big crazy money to get him.

With that in mind, it probably makes sense, then to let Alonso go.

***

I just saw this on Twitter (X):

If the Yankees have reduced the payroll that much, I think that supports my belief that a player is coming....

I'm all in on Alex Bregman or Nolan Arenado. I think eith make the Yankees appreciably better.

I have been away, in Disney World. There's this crazy, silly, dopey, race series that I have always wanted to run. It's called the Dopey Challenge.

On Thursday is a 5k race.

On Friday is a 10K race.

Saturday is a Half Marathon

And Sunday is a marathon.

48.6 miles of running in four days.

To cut to the chase, I completed the Dopey Challenge on Sunday. It was dopey, but it was great.

In Disney (at least when one isn't running race after race after race) I feel like a kid again. It's magical and fun.

We hadn't been there in 15 years. A lot has changed, but it's still great. I'm very glad I was able to complete the Dopey Challenge.

That race sounds more like the Doc Challenge than the Dopey Challenge. Glad you're Happy, though!

what leads you to believe that the addition will be at third and not at second base?

a veteran 3B is likely to be more expensive, more of a power hitter than a 2B and it seems as though the Yankees might need to dump Stroman's salary ahead of another major purchase.

I'm torn between thinking that they might have a greater need for a lead-off hitter than for an additional power bat and thinking that they can really use another thumper as insurance against a Stanton fizzle

While it's great for their fans for the Mets to have signed Soto, My friends (and even their teen or adult kids too) who are Mets fans, really want Alonso back too. Most want them to have their kids (Acuna & Mauricio) fight for 2B.

As for the Yankees 4th starting infielder, I really don't know what they'll do, but my sense is that the 4th starter is not yet in the organization. While personally, I'd love to give Peraza a shot, I think that is a BIG NO-NO go for Cashman & his gang. Overnight during the 2022 season, he joined Florial & Pereira as no longer prospects and were being converted into organizational depth. Why they refuse …

Great job on the running. Next time I see you, remind me to tell you the joke about Mickey and Minnie divorce!
