Note to Yanks: Don't Win 103 Games

by Paul Semendinger

January 5, 2025

***

I am busy at work putting the finishing touches on my next book about the Yankees (to be published by Artemesia Publishing in 2025).

I'll share more details in the coming weeks (and months), but one of the things I can share is that I am reseraching and creating lots of unique and fun charts and lists in the book.

I just made a chart of the most regular season wins in Yankees history. The Yankees teams with the most wins have usually won the World Series, except if the team won 103 games. If that happened, it didn't often turn out so well. When the Yankees win 103 regular season games, they don't often championships.

Take a look:

Chart developed by Paul Semendinger, 2025

As we look ahead to the 2025 season, I hope the Yankees win many games, I hope they win often, but I hope they don't end with 103 wins. That usually doesn't end up so well...

Seems like there's little risk of that happening in 2025.

What a strange statistical anomaly. And they won 103 SIX times.

Looks like the key is to win more than 104!

a real concern, fersure,

considering that the Yankees so often win 100 or more games in a season

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
