Roy White may not be the biggest star in New York Yankee history. But he was a critical figure connecting the Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris years with the Bronx Zoo years plus the Joe Torre dynasty.

One of my lasting memories of the ORIGINAL original Yankee Stadium (the 1923 to 1973 version of Yankee Stadium) is how Roy White's photo was plastered all over the stadium. They were photos of Roy White everywhere holding and presumably eating a knish, promoting the crunchy square Coney Island knishes they sell at the stadium. We used to always call them "Roy White Knishes" because we always associated Roy White with them with all of those ads and all of that signage all over the old stadium featuring Roy White and those knishes.
