It's been great to see the combination of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto bring success to the Yankees, showing the strength and Retro Bowl talent of this team in the 2024 season.

It's the "how they got there" that is so dissatisfying. If each of the first three sets of 35 games had been 20-15, we'd feel very good. Instead, it was 22-13, 27-8, and 11-24. This season, with its 44-45 conclusion (so far), has been as unpleasant to experience as 2022 (41-41 to end the season, swept out in the ALCS) and 2023 (82-80 for the whole season, no playoffs). To remove the foul taste, the Yankees have to make it to the World Series (win or lose there). Another ALCS failure, particularly if they embarrass themselves again as in 2022, or an ALDS choke, will just be a continuation of the revolting ineptitude.

But if they still win a division title at the end, or better yet, the League Championship at the end, or better still, a World Championship, then the journey will no longer matter, as long as they reach …

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
