All the more reason that the Yankees did NOT need to add a new starting pitcher from outside their organization during the last off season. Luis Gil, in effect, was that new addition, and the Yankees had him all along in their organization, since acquiring him when he was in the lowest part of the Minnesota Twins minor league system, and nurturing him through their own minor league system.

Eh, its just another contrived factoid that people like to toss around. Giving up 2 runs in 5 innings is not that great a pitching performance. It equates to a 3.60 ERA. Not bad but not that noteworthy.

And the reason I think its cherry picking is that <= 2 runs is an arbitrary number, How do we know there weren't teams that allowed 2.1 or 2.2 runs in 5 or more innings for 16 or more straight starts. Or teams that allowed <= 2 runs in 5 more innings in 13 or 14 straight starts? I'd like to see the data before buying into the Yankees' PR announcement.

obviously there are countless and unforeseeable things that will happen between today and October. i get that!! but just for fun, If the playoffs started today, what is the playoff pitching rotation?

my honest answer is that I have no idea who pitches game one or who goes to the pen. i feel VERY sure that Gil is in the rotation!! I feel like he is the ONLY lock of the 5 to NOT go to the pen for the playoffs. at the same time, I am not sure they put the weight of game one on him

take this further and hope and guess that Cole returns as a healthy and fully Cole Gerrit Cole. He is the obviou…

I like the choice of Rodon as one of the three. He is a very tough competitor. The remaining 3 starters (assuming all 6 are still healthy) can be available as a fallback should the starter get into any early trouble, the Yankees could simply trot out another starter was was effective during the regular season.
