Breaking Report: STROMAN A YANKEE

January 11, 2024

***

It's being reported that Marcus Stroman is a Yankee...

QUICK TAKE - if this is the Yankees' only move, this does not solve their pitching issues. If this is part of a bigger plan, it can be a smart move.

Time will tell.

In related and very minor drama, the Yankees need to clear a roster spot for Stroman. If Cashman can't pull off a very minor trade, someone will need to be DFA'd.

So, is the offer to Snell still on the table? Does it become more appealing to him with the Yanks signing Stroman? "we're not going higher because we don't need you as much as we did yesterday..."

I have a sinking feeling that the Yankees aren't signing another starter. I'm expecting Cashman to kick some tires regarding possible trades, but if the goal is to upgrade the rotation, subtracting King and adding Stroman hasn't really accomplished all that much. No doubt the Yankees would appreciate it if the Guardians wanted to discuss trading Bieber, but I have a piece on that coming up this weekend.

I am certainly no math whiz, but my arithmetic says that Stroman puts the Yankees over the top luxury tax bracket. Assuming that Hal has some (unknown to us) limit to what he will spend, I would prefer to sign Bellinger, to keep Grisham on the bench, and Judge out of Center, and trade for a pitcher, however harsh the prospect cost. I fear that signing Snell will knock the Yankees out on Bellinger

An exciting day at SSTN.

Thanks to all for the great discussions throughout many articles.

It's all fun. In the end, I think we all want the Yankees to be great. Some see the paths to getting there in different ways. But, that's why we discuss it all.

We'll agree... we'll disagree...

We talk baseball.

Have a great night - I'm sure they'll be a lot to discuss tomorrow.

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.
