Being reported today by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Yankees now have their newest pitching coach in Matt Blake.
Most recently, Matt Blake was a part of the Cleveland Indians’ organization where he worked as the assistant director as part of the Indians’ player development.
Outside of major league baseball, he was also a pitching director for Cressey Performance, and also owns the company Elite Pitching Development.
This is also not Matt Blake’s first stint in working with the Yankees, as he- according to his LinkedIn- has been an area scout for them since 2010.
As more information comes out, we will update. Check inside for tweets about what MLB insiders think:
(Hint: This is looking like a great move.)
The New York Yankees are hiring Matt Blake as their new pitching coach, sources tell ESPN. Blake was previously a pitching coordinator with the Cleveland Indians, who continuously have churned out quality big league pitchers. He also has worked as an area scout for the Yankees. — Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) November 8, 2019
#Yankees have not done well at developing SP. #Indians got 64 starts and a 3.30 ERA from Bieber/Civale/Plesac in ’19 after they were drafted between 3d-12th round in 2016. Blake is part of the group that nurtured the trio. — Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) November 8, 2019
The Indians promoted Matt Blake to their director of pitching development just two days ago. He’s highly regarded (obviously, since he’s now apparently the Yankees pitching coach) both at coaching and translating advanced data into terms pitchers can understand and utilize. https://t.co/jeLOXy91rh — Zack Meisel (@ZackMeisel) November 8, 2019

Yeah, after a quick glance of who Matt Blake follows on Twitter, he’s for sure a big analytics guy. Couldn’t be happier. https://t.co/VA0WfT9lLd — Max Wildstein (@MaxWildstein) November 8, 2019
