As a New York fan, this makes me happy, both for the Mets and for the Yankees, who won't have to face Verlander unless we get a Subway Series.
ETA: Interesting because Scherzer is $43 1/3 million in AAV, a hair more than Verlander.
You know it's a crazy world when I say that I like the Verlander deal (at $43 AAV for a 40 year old pitcher) more than the DeGrom deal.
The Mets were motivated, for sure - their rotation as it stood was Scherzer and some random trinkets.
Verlander would have been a huge get for the Yankees, but I'm not sure I'd be in at $43 million AAV. I like Rodon more for the money.
The Yankees missed on Verlander three times.
This would have been a big move for the Yankees.

They still might be, but players are coming off the board...
This is exactly what I was concerned might happen as the Yankees wait for Judge.
I'd tell Aaron, "Our best offer is X. We need to know by Friday or the offer goes away and we start to take care of other business. We already lost two potential fallback guys in the event you are leaving. We want you to stay, but we can't let your decision impact on our ability to build a team for 2023 and beyond."
