My hopes that both Cashman and Boone would have been fired by now-- dashed upon the rocks.

Andy: my thoughts were not concerning Verlander or deGrom. Didn't want either of those two guys. I am thinking long-term and neither one fits. One is injury prone and the other is 40 years old. Both were serious overpays. Not what I call the kind of investments that help the club.

As a New York fan, this makes me happy, both for the Mets and for the Yankees, who won't have to face Verlander unless we get a Subway Series.

ETA: Interesting because Scherzer is $43 1/3 million in AAV, a hair more than Verlander.

You know it's a crazy world when I say that I like the Verlander deal (at $43 AAV for a 40 year old pitcher) more than the DeGrom deal.

The Mets were motivated, for sure - their rotation as it stood was Scherzer and some random trinkets.

Verlander would have been a huge get for the Yankees, but I'm not sure I'd be in at $43 million AAV. I like Rodon more for the money.

Um, isn't that the question for every free agent? 😉
