I'm not surprised by this at all. Cashman was saying all these complimentary things about Boone all week. I'm actually less concerned about this and more worried about Soto signing with the Mets, and rumors of Yanks signing Christian Walker (34 yrs old) to play 1B.

Younger, faster, please! Why go down the road of signing players entering their declining years? In addition, he would have to adjust to a new league where he does not know the pitchers. I may be wrong but it doesn't make a case for optimism.

After Cashman's remarks earlier this week at the GM Meetings, is anyone really surprised?

As I keep saying, Boone does whatever Cashman wants, so why wouldn't Cashman keep him?

This is not a baseball decision in keeping Boone. Heck, hiring him was never a baseball- first decision.

they've tried to get him extended

but Boone has refused to sign the 15 year, $600M offer until after he meets with all the other clubs so frenetically queued in pursuit of the procurement of his services.
