Today's roster moves: Dominguez gets called up, Berti returns from the IL, DJ goes on the IL, and Misiewicz is DFA'ed.
Some Real Quick Thoughts:
Now that Jasson Dominguez has returned to the Bronx, expect him to play (almost) every day. During the series against the Chicago Cubs, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman did say, "If he [Jasson Dominguez] comes here, he is going to play."
It's also already being reported that Dominguez will be playing center field tonight. This is a great thing.
It's clear that Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have been in a funk over the past two weeks or so. Now that Dominguez is back, I'd give them both a day or two to completely rest and reset themselves.
It's better to give a game or two now to have Judge and Soto be in the right head-space for batting than to keep forcing them to try and carry the team and be off at the end of the month. The Yankees have a lead (albeit slight) and should use it to their advantage. Give those guys a day off or two. They deserve it.
Also: Dominguez should help to make the outfield alignment better defensively. Aaron Judge has done a fine job as a center fielder this year and last, but it's not where he belongs long-term. Dominguez will help take wear and tear off of Judge's back (and legs) and allow him to shift back into a corner outfield role.
This also helps the Yankees get the most out of Verdugo as a defensive replacement and platoon bat/pinch-hitter (to be used only against right-handed pitchers). This does also likely spell the end of Verdugo's time as a starter for the Yankees.
Additionally, Dominguez brings some needed youth, excitement, and speed to this team. I can only imagine how tough a grind this season has been, especially after the blisteringly hot start in the spring, and the constant mediocre play over the whole summer. Bringing in a budding superstar will do great things towards helping this teams morale.
I also hope to watch Dominguez, Volpe, and Chisholm (and Berti) tear up the basepaths and make life extremely difficult for opposing teams during the postseason. That would be a lot of fun to watch, and would be a lot for other teams to manage.
WELCOME BACK JASSON!
(and Jon Berti)
Great job! This post was very enlightening and well-written. Area Code
it was obvious to all those open to seeing it that LeMahieu was about to become injured and allow for Berti's return.
I'll be very interested to see Thursday's line-up against the lefty starter. I assume it'll be Judge-Dominguez-Soto left to right, Stanton DH, Berti at 3B (or 1B?), and maybe Trevino catching if Wells needs a day off.
YAY! So happy The Martian is back! The Scanton Wilkes-Barre offense CLOBBERED the Syracuse Mets pitching over the weekend! Scranton Wilkes-Barre's offense was the polar opposite of the Yankees offense over the last 3 games! Besides The Martian being red hot, so was Jon Berti who is also back! Ben Rice was hitting. Oswald Peraza was hitting. They were an offensive machine over the weekend! What a great infusion of offense this will be if Dominguez and Berti carry their hot streak over to the majors! IF.
Just wondering if the "injury" to LeMaheiu was real or was it a way to clear a roster spot? Who knows?
IF ONLY The Martian was recalled a month ago, Spencer Jones, who…
Glad to see Dominguez called up. Good timing considering that Soto is 16-76 in his last 20 games and Judge is 18-72 in his last 20. They're a combined .229 BA the last 20. Not a criticism since they carry the club and are wonderful but rather the product of a long season. Bad time for both of them to be slumping. The author suggested more rest for them both. Could not agree more. Playing KC (out of the division team) is the perfect time to give them both the next two out of three days off, especially with the Red Sox coming up followed by the usual draining west coast trip.
