BN: Beards Are OK Again

Writer: SSTN AdminSSTN Admin

Breaking News: The Yankees players, and personnel, are now allowed to sport well-groomed beards moving forward.

Quick Thoughts:

  • I am shocked, and I don't know much else to say about this. This is some crazy early morning news for a Friday.

  • The Yankees have prided themselves on tradition, and it appears as though that tradition can now be broken.

  • That isn't to say I am against beards, at all. I myself have had a beard since I was in college, and I think it can be a good look.

  • That being said, I always liked the "no beard" policy implemented by George Steinbrenner. I think it gave the Yankees a classic and timeless look.

  • I am very happy, however, that there is stipulation on the beards and that they have to be maintained and well-groomed.

  • One problem I've had with beards in this past is the wild look that some teams (*cough* The Red Sox) have promoted as "playoff beards" in the past. Nobody can tell me that a disheveled and unkempt beard is a good look.

  • As long as the Yankees are willing to enforce that it does not get to that point, I am okay with the shift in policy.

  • I'm also not too surprised- in hindsight- that this news has come. There has been a shift in general in the American culture about beards being acceptable and professional, and there have been more and more Yankees sporting beards in the off-season.

  • I wonder how much of an influence newcomer Devin Williams had on this shift in policy.

  • I wonder if Andrew McCutchen was consulted about this change in policy.

  • Wow.

Tip of the iceberg, Stayed tuned....

I'll bet they spent more time analyzing the beard issue, than they did on the merits of a Boone extension.

Gee, I hope Devin Williams didn't throw away his Braun electric trimmer already in favor of a Harry's Razor Kit.

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
