About Last Night: NYM 12, NYY 2

By Ethan Semendinger

June 27, 2024

***

The New York Mets have one of the best booths in baseball. It's a shame that we were stuck with Amazon Prime last night.

Quick Stats -

  • Winning Pitcher: Sean Manaea (5-3, 3.89 ERA)

  • Losing Pitcher: Luis Gil (9-3, 3.15 ERA)

  • Save: Adrian Houser (1)

  • Home Runs (New York [AL]): Aaron Judge (30)

  • Home Runs (New York [NL]): Francisco Alvarez (4), Tyrone Taylor (3), Harrison Bader (6)

---

Big Story - The New York Mets have really taken over baseball by storm.

This was the line-up for the second, and final game of the Citi Field-held version of the 2024 Subway Series:

---

Player of the Game -

  • Aaron Judge: 2 for 2, homer, 2 RBI's

Notable Performances -

  • Alex Verdugo had two hits

Better to Forget -

  • Luis Gil: 4.1 innings, 5 earned runs

  • Caleb Ferguson: 0 innings, 1 earned run

  • Yoendrys Gomes: 2 innings, 5 earned runs

---

The Game - It is late. I am tired. It was ugly for the Yankees. The Mets out played them in every way.

---

Next Up - The Yankees (52-30) will be at home against the Blue Jays (36-43) starting tonight at 7:00 p.m. Carlos Rodon gets the start for the Yankees.

It took half a season, but the other teams have Gil figured out. Pitch tipping?

By the way, whether Kay likes it or not, the Mets booth is one of the best. I enjoy them much more then the YES guys. One reason is chemistry. Its always gary keith and ron. On the flip side, i have no idea who is doing the yankee games each night. Too many part timers, no chemistry. Kay, cone, oneill, flaherty (who is excellent) roucco, nelson, valle, frazier....its just a mixed bag every game. Remember maybin and beltran disaster. I can't figure it out. Settle on a team, like sny did. I know when I turn my Rangers on who I'll be hanging out with for the 2+ hours and look forward to micheletti and rosen.

Just like the NYY the NYM will come down to earth. Its the power of 162. We'll see them again on 7/23! But for today, the 7 line has bragging rights in 2024.

Last night was ugly for so many reasons. Luis Gil body looks tired. Gomez throwing off speed after off speed pitch despite them not being a strike. Throw enough non strikes, the actual strikes you do throw will be crushed. Torres isn't healthy, in my opinion, neither is Trevino, both have legit replacements healthy and playing well in Triple-A, but neither guy has been moved to the IL, why not? Not a single move has been done to shock this team. No lineups out of a hat. No one totally unexpected DFA'd, no one benched, no coach, manager, executive, or medical personnel of note fired. Heck, with all the guys slumping at the same time, why was Cabrera nailed …

You know what I think of their pitching philosophy, methodology, & analytical way of doing things, both here and in the minors - utter garbage.
