Aaron Boone's Future

By Paul Semendinger

November 1, 2024

I received the following e-mail from my son Ryan.

Dear Dad,

This may come as controversial but I've thought long about where the Yankees organization stands now that Boone's contract is up for renewal. Below are my arguments, believe it or not, in favor of keeping Boone around for another 2-3 year stint.

Love,

Ryan

Hey, the only thing I got for keeping Boone is, if it's still the same Cashman, what is really going to be different about the next guy?

a disciplinarian manager, one who is intolerant of the laxity that often accompanies the seemingly endless repetition which is part of the daily grind and who is eager to burnish the authority bestowed upon him can make a difference.

the floggings will continue until morale improves

will work in short order and will sometimes suffice to bring about the desired adherence to desired procedures.

first, instill the fear of punishment will guide them until the fear of disapproval takes over and then drill them till muscle memory guides their actions

it works

and it produces greater precision and other things

it's a tried and true method

and there are any number of people who have been subjected to such things…

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
