It's the Yankees' last day off before the start of the second half. Let's catch up on where the roster's walking wounded stand (or sit). - Carlos Beltran played in a MiL rehab games with the Tampa Yankees last night, going 2-2 with a BB in 3 plate appearances as the DH. He's been playing sim games down at the team complex during the break and is supposed to be activated soon after the second half starts.
- Chase Headley said he was feeling fine and wouldn't need any extra rest coming out of the break after he got back into games last weekend, and there have been no follow-up reports on his calf so I'm assuming he's good to go.
- Brendan Ryan continues to bounce from team to team to get his rehab work in. Since he hasn't played much this season, he needs all the time he can get. He's gotten work at shortstop and third base recently and should be ready to be activated soon after Beltran, but he could end up as a roster casualty if the Yankees need 40-man space.
- Andrew Bailey has resurfaced after getting shut down in late April with a shoulder setback. He's been pitching for the Trenton Thunder for the last few weeks and has allowed 1 ER with 7 strikeouts in 7 IP.
- I think everybody probably already knew this, but Mason Williams has been transferred to the 60-day DL for his shoulder injury. Seems a little strange that the team isn't proceeding with any kind of follow-up exam or surgery plan. If what was supposed to be a minor shoulder injury doesn't get any better with 15 days of rest, how much good is another 45 going to do? Sucks for him.
- Vicente (formerly Jose) Campos has returned to game action following last year's TJS. He's been pitching for High-A Tampa this month, and while the results haven't been good (14 ER in 10.2 IP over 3 appearances) it's good to know he's back on the mound. Dude's still only 22.
As far as we know, the rest of the smaller injury concerns are all good right now. Ellsbury's knee, Miller's forearm, Teix's neck, Tanaka's elbow. The Yankees are a pretty healthy ballclub heading into the second half and they're going to be getting healthier in short order. That's a good way to be as you get ready to make a playoff run.
