Lunchtime news and notes: 2/19/15

Good afternoon, everyone. We have just one more sleep until pitchers and catchers officially report to camp. That hasn't stopped some of the guys from showing up and working out. Masahiro Tanaka has been showing up for the past two days. He did a long toss yesterday and this morning, he threw a 21-pitch bullpen session.

Speaking of working out, the Yankees held a second secret workout with Yoan Moncada early yesterday evening. According to George King of the NY Post, "Two people with knowledge of the situation confirmed the 19-year-old free agent, a switch-hitting infielder from Cuba, showcased his skills for the Yankees, who were intrigued enough to see him again." As usual, money is a factor in whether or not the Yankees will be the trigger and try to get the 19-year-old phenom. Reports are that he would command a $30M signing bonus and since the Yankees went over their international signing limits, they'd have to pay double ($60M). David Hastings, Moncada's agent, said, "The offers are coming in and I'm still hopeful that we can make a decision soon."

And one last story that actually happened last night and made me laugh so hard I snorted. Norm Macdonald was tweeting behind the scenes tidbits about Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary special for two hours. It was pretty interesting to see his perspective and to see how the show actually came together. Well, friend of the blog, David Cone attended the 40th anniversary special and its afterparty - if you recall, Cone and David Wells famously appeared in drag during Derek Jeter's hosting stint in late 2001 - and Cone had his own story from Sunday night's shindig:

This was Boomer's reaction:

Enjoy your afternoon!
