Winter Meetings Day 3 Recap: 12/10/14

winter_meetings_2014_hkouzqh3 Day 2 ended in similar fashion to Day 1, with news of a big free agent name heading to Chicago. This time it was Jon Lester heading to the Cubs for 6 years/$155M. Good for him. Today's big news, so far, is Jimmy Rollins heading to L.A. after 15 years in Philadelphia. I say so far because with the Winter Meetings on the west coast, the big news items have been breaking well after midnight on the east coast so we'll see what happens tonight. Could it be Max Scherzer heading out of Detroit? Who knows but with the way reporters are hanging onto Scott Boras' every word, it's a possibility.

Anyway, here is your Day 3 recap:

Here's a quote from Scott Boras on the Yankees and Max Scherzer courtesy of Chad Jennings of the Lohud Yankees Blog:

“I don’t know. That model of having 50 wins and 600 innings (from the top three starters) has worked very well for them. You can go back and find when Clemens was the No. 1, or Mussina was the No. 1, or Pettitte. They won a lot of world championships with that formula. The idea of them having No. 1 pitchers certainly would add protection to where their current pitchers are; take inning off of them, give them a little bit of an umbrella. We have someone to lead, be the No. 1. I can’t predict what the Yankees are going to do, but I can tell you that a guy like Max fits into their starting rotation to develop a World Series caliber set that is similar to what they’ve had in the past when they’ve won.”

Hmmmmmm. Wait, they didn't win any championships while Moose was on the team. Don't bum me out right now, Boras. Jeez.

Anyway, use this as your open thread and feel free to discuss all of happenings at the Winter Meetings and anything else that's baseball related.

I will post any breaking news as it happens.

UPDATE 9:55 P.M.: The Red Sox have agreed to a trade with the Diamondbacks. Boston will get Wade Miley and a minor leaguer to be named later for pitchers Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster.
