Game 141: Derek Jeter Day

I've really soured on Derek Jeter over the last 5 years since I started blogging. Big time in the last 2. But I've always said that he is and will be my favorite Yankee and baseball player of all-time and that feeling hasn't changed. Derek Jeter is probably the greatest Yankee I'll see in my lifetime and one of the greatest players that my generation of baseball fans will ever see. He's been the face of his franchise and MLB forever and he does deserve some recognition for all that he's done in his career. He'll get that recognition from the Yankee Stadium crowd this afternoon on Derek Jeter Day, when his number will be retired, his plaque in Monument Park will be unveiled, and scores of past teammates and coaches will come out to pay tribute to him. Rookie Shane Greene gets the start today and he'll be looking to rebound from his worst career start to date earlier in the week. Here's the starting lineup for the Bombers:

1) Jacoby Ellsbury- CF 2) Derek Jeter- SS 3) Martin Prado- 2B 4) Carlos Beltran- RF 5) Brian McCann- C 6) Mark Teixeira- 1B 7) Stephen Drew- DH 8) Chase Headley- 3B 9) Ichiro Suzuki- LF

This is a big game for the Yanks and the setting for a series-clinching win couldn't be better. Let's go Yankees!
