Saturday Afternoon/Evening Open Thread

So the McCarthy era is starting off nicely. Today the Yankees beat the Reds 7-1 at the Stadium and McCarthy had a very strong game - 6 IP, 1 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 9 K in 99 pitches. Also having a very strong game? The offense! They made it possible for Yankee fans to get half off Papa John's pizza by scoring more than six runs.

Brett Gardner had three RBI, Kelly Johnson had two, Brian Roberts scored three times (and if I recall correctly Gardner did the honors all three times.) Carlos Beltran opened the scoring by hitting a solo shot off Reds' starter Alfredo Simon and Derek Jeter also joined the RBI party with a single in the bottom of the fifth.

The big story was McCarthy. Other than a solo home run by Chris Heisey in the top of the fifth, he held the Reds in check which is good because when he was a member of the Diamondbacks earlier in the season, he had a tough outing against them on May 31. McCarthy gave up five earned runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings.

It was a nice start to the second 'half" of the season for the Yankees who are now 49-47.

So this is your open thread. Feel free to talk about the game, any other games that are being played across MLB or whatever you feel like discussing. You can even talk about golf if you want.
